Only a stones throw away from Papilio is the town of Luchon, the gateway for the best adventure activities the Pyrenees have to offer.

Not forgetting the local ski resort of Superbagneres and Peyragudes.

You can arrange all these activities on arrival or independently, if you wish an adventure company to organise your activities and holiday please visit the links page where there are a few suggestions. Rolfe is affiliated to all of the companies.

Visitors are able to relax by visiting the many local restaurants and bars on the main boulevard or soak up the heat in the famous healing Thermal Baths. Other activities in Luchon include swimming (inside and out, season depending), tennis, mini golf and various parks with fun activities for the children, including a new outdoors activity park that has recently opened (20 minutes drive from Luchon), Pyrenees Ho. They offer an abundance of adventure activities for the ages of 3 upwards. Another wonderful day out with children is to hire a donkey. You are able to take them independently for up to a day and with a guide if you wish to camp out. May and June are particularly beautiful times as the valley floor is covered with wild flowers. We do this excursion often and can highly recommend it !!

Please note that children under 15 are not permitted in the Thermals in Luchon, however 30 minutes drive away (snow depending!) is Balnéa Thermals in the village of Genos where there are more leisurely thermals for all ages. In the warmer months the drive alone is spectacular as you head over the Col de Peyresoude, however please note that during the winter this pass is usually closed due to snow, and you will have to drive around the mountain adding another 20 minutes to your journey.

In Genos there are many activities for children, (summer months only) which include go-carts, riding, fun pool with water slides and various bouncy castles. There are also beautiful walks around the lake.

In the winter the resort of Saint-Lary-Soulan (45 minutes away) along with the Spanish resort of Baqueira (1 hour 15 minutes) is well worth visiting for all snow sports as the season runs until the end of April.

Luchon has many festivals throughout the year, including the Tour de France and the famous Flower and Film Festivals. Please visit the Luchon Tourist Office on the links page for more information.
